Hi all!

National politics are getting all the attention, but here in Washington we need our eye on the State House to help us achieve clean energy and a fairer state tax structure for the COVID era. The election is less than 4 months away!

Here are TWO CANDIDATES who are on the cusp of flipping State-House seats:

Alicia Rule – running for State House 42nd Legislative District
(Bellingham and north to the border)

Alicia Rule is a Blaine City Council member with a background in social work. She has been endorsed by the Sierra Club and the major labor unions and is a strong supporter of clean energy. We missed flipping this seat by just 262 votes out of 72,000 cast in 2018. This is our year!

Clint Bryson – running for State House 19th Legislative District
(Aberdeen down along the coast then east to Longview.)

Bryson is an electrical worker and labor leader who has lived in this mostly rural district all his life. His top priorities are investing in education, keeping healthcare affordable and accessible, and fighting climate change.

Bryson is looking to unseat the very conservative Republican incumbent Jim Walsh. Walsh won this seat in 2016 by less than 1%, then again held it with just 50.4% of the vote in 2018. This is our year!

Donate or volunteer here. Let’s win back this seat!

In just three months ballots for the general election will be arriving. Now is the time to support these campaigns to give them time to organize. For State House races like this your dollars can have huge impact. Donate to these two races now.

And don’t forget the two State-Senate candidates most likely to flip seats below. These four races are the best way to make a difference for Washington State.

Helen Price Johnson – running for State Senate
10th Legislative District (Whidbey, Camano, South Skagit)

T’wina Nobles – running for State Senate
28th Legislative District (Tacoma and suburbs to its south)

LOOKING AHEAD: While we made big progress, we have a lot of challenges ahead. With our economy in free fall, we'll need a bigger margin to help us recover from the coronavirus pandemic, and to finally get to the toughest nugget of all: fixing our state's regressive tax structure.

Please donate financially what you can to the above candidates, but also consider donating your time. In this stay-at-home era, we’re all local. These races will be won by the candidate who is most effective getting out the vote with phone banking, and our candidates’ call centers can always use you.

And lastly, thank you for sticking with Friends of Washington! We'll keep you informed on our path to Election Day 2020 and your options to ensure that we Make Washington Ever More Blue.

Sincerely,
Your friends at Friends of Washington
